Men's tennis earns fifth straight win, 7-2, over Elizabethtown

OWINGS MILLS, Md. - The Salisbury University men's tennis team extended its winning streak to five matches with a 7-2 victory over Elizabethtown College Wednesday afternoon at the McDonogh School.

In doubles action, the Sea Gulls took two out of three matches from the Blue Jays with sophomore Daniel Albers and freshman Eric Spangler, earning a victory, 8-2, at No.1, while sophomore Nick Mancuso and junior Shane Gunther captured an 8-1 win at No. 3.

The Blue Jays (7-1) got their only doubles point of the afternoon at No. 2, as Paul Whitman and Billy Freitag defeated junior Demetri Vrahnos and senior Adam Goldberger, 8-2.

Salisbury (9-6) took five of the six singles matches on its way to victory. Albers earned a 6-2, 6-1 win at No.1, while Spangler won in straight sets as well, 6-3, 6-1 at No. 2.

Goldberger dropped only two games on his way to a 6-2, 6-0 victory at No. 4 and Gunther coasted in straight sets at No. 5 with a 6-1, 6-1 victory over Mike Cannon. Freshman Matthew McGaffney also rolled to victory at No. 6 over Freitag, 6-1, 6-3.

Vrahnos was defeated 6-2, 6-0 by Whitman at No. 3, for the only singles point on the day for the Blue Jays.

Salisbury will look to add to its recent success on Friday, April 5 as it returns home to the SU Tennis Courts to take on Muhlenberg College in a non-conference match. The match is scheduled to begin at 4 p.m.
