CLAREMONT, Calif. – The Salisbury University men's tennis team battled Babson College in the Sea Gulls' first contest of their annual spring break trip to California, falling in a narrow loss, 5-4.
Babson claimed two of the three doubles matches, winning at No. 1 and No. 2 by scores of 8-4 and 8-5, respectively. Salisbury claimed the No. 3 doubles match with senior Justin Smith and junior Adam Goldberger picking up an 8-5 victory.
Freshman Nick Mancuso claimed the No. 6 singles match for Salisbury, 6-3, 6-3. It was the only singles match that did not need three sets for a decision. The Sea Gulls (1-2) saw wins from freshman Daniel Albers (6-3, 4-6, 6-0) at No. 2 and senior Curtis Quandt (6-4, 3-6, 6-3) at No. 4 while the Beavers (3-4) earned three-set victories at No. 1, 3 and 5.
Salisbury continues with its second of four-consecutive matches on Tuesday, March 20. The Sea Gulls will take on the University of the South beginning at 1 p.m., eastern time.
