Salisbury trounces Hampden-Sydney, 8-1; looks ahead to Mary Washington tomorrow

SALISBURY, Md. – The Salisbury University men's tennis team picked up a resounding 8-1 victory over visiting Hampden-Sydney College on Friday afternoon at the SU Indoor Tennis Center.

The Sea Gulls (7-3, 2-0 Capital Athletic Conference) swept the singles competition. Sophomore Henry Stuhler, who played the No. 4 spot for the first time this season after spending the majority of the year at No. 5, earned the 6-2, 6-1 victory; he remains undefeated in singles play, boasting a record of 9-0 so far in 2011.

Senior Andrew Nottage and junior Daniel Barnas continued their success as the No. 1 doubles duo, extending their win streak to five matches with an 8-2 win against Hampden-Sydney (5-2).

Tomorrow (April 2) will be a big match for both the men's and women's teams as they square off against perennial powerhouse and fellow conference member the University of Mary Washington. The men's match, originally scheduled for 1 p.m., will now begin at 11 a.m.; the women's match will start at 1 p.m.
