Three Sea Gulls named ITA All-Academic Scholar-Athletes
SKILLMAN, N.J. – The Intercollegiate
Tennis Association (ITA) recently announced its All-Academic
Scholar-Athletes and three members of the Salisbury University
men's tennis program were honored. Senior Evan Thomas,
junior David
Lupinetti and sophomore Justin
Smith were all honored by the ITA for their athletic
and academic achievement.
In order to earn ITA Scholar-Athlete status a player must meet the
following criteria: be a varsity letter winner, have a grade point
average of at least 3.50 (on a 4.00 scale) for the current academic
year, and be enrolled at their present school for at least two
semesters (including freshman through senior year).
This marks the second time in Thomas' four years that he has been
named a Scholar-Athlete, as he was the first Sea Gull in program
history to be named an ITA Scholar-Athlete in 2008. The Salisbury,
Md., native posted a 59-23 career singles record and 65-20 career
doubles record in four years at Salisbury.
This marks the first time that Lupinetti and Smith have been named
ITA Scholar-Athletes. Lupinetti enters his senior season with a
38-19 career singles record and a 30-12 career doubles record.
Smith has posted an 8-3 career singles record and a 7-6 career
doubles record.
