Four Sea Gulls selected for NCAA individual championships

INDIANAPOLIS – Four Salisbury University tennis student-athletes have been selected to travel to the NCAA tournament as individuals, with seniors Evan Thomas (Salisbury, Md.) and Scott Burtzlaff (Clarksville, Md.) being selected on the men's side while senior Jackie Burr (Dover, Del.) and freshman Jillian Poppe (Califon, N.J.) will make the trip to represent the women.

Burtzlaff will be pulling double duty at the men's championship, which will be held at Oberlin College near Cleveland. He will be teaming with Thomas as the top-ranked doubles pairing (of four selected) in the region and will be playing singles as well, entering as the No. 5-ranked singles player (of eight selected) in the region. This season Burtzlaff and Thomas posted a 15-6 mark as a double team. In their careers, the pair is 41-13 when playing alongside each other.

Burr and Poppe will travel to Fredericksburg, Va., for the women's event being hosted by the University of Mary Washington, as the fifth-ranked doubles team in the women's region. The top four teams in each region play in the event; Burr and Poppe will be alternates in case another doubles pairing cannot compete for any reason. This season the duo combined for a 13-2 record together, going 1-1 against opponents ranked within the region.

Both the men's and women's tournaments will be played May 28-30.
