Maroon and Gold continue success; knock off Swarthmore

SALISBURY, Md. - The No. 30 Salisbury University men's tennis team continued its success Sunday, as it defeated Swarthmore College, 6-3. Swarthmore entered the day ranked No. 8 in the region, one spot behind Salisbury. The Sea Gulls swept the doubles matches and won three singles matches.

The top doubles duo of seniors Scott Burtzlaff (Clarksville, Md.) and Evan Thomas (Salisbury, Md.) took care of business on the court, as they defeated Zak Kelm and Stephen Youngblood, 8-1. The third doubles team of junior David Lupinetti (Walkersville, Md.) and Marcus Robinson (Cambridge, Md.) beat Maxwell Bressman and Mark Wee of Swarthmore 8-5. The last doubles match belonged to junior Andrew Nottage (Huntingtown, Md.) and freshman Henry Stuhler (Bay Head, N.J.), as they defeated Malikm Mubeen and Seth Udelson, 8-4.

In singles action, Burtzlaff took his match against Kelm easily, 6-2, 6-0. Burtzlaff is now 9-3 this season, with a 5-1 singles record and a 4-2 mark in doubles. Thomas was able to put away Wee in third singles, 7-6, 6-4. The next match to finish was second singles, where Lupinetti could not get things going against Youngblood. Lupinetti dropped the match 7-6, 6-3. Nottage was defeated by Bressman 6-4, 6-4 in fourth singles. Robinson was defeated by Mubeen in fifth singles 6-4, 7-6. The sixth singles match went well for Athans, who beat Udelson in straight sets 6-2, 6-3.

The Sea Gulls (2-1) will prepare to go on the road for the next two weeks, for matches at York (Pa.) College, Virginia Wesleyan College, and a spring break trip to California.
