Burtzlaff, Barnas earn CAC Men's Tennis awards; 11 All-CAC honors for Sea Gulls

YORK, Pa. - The Salisbury University men's tennis team earned two of the three Capital Athletic Conference postseason awards handed out this week. Salisbury University junior Scott Burtzlaff was named Co-Player of the Year and freshman Daniel Barnas was picked as the CAC Rookie of the Year. The Sea Gulls had six players honored altogether as five were named to All-CAC first or second teams for singles and all three doubles teams received all-conference recognition.

Burtzlaff posted a 4-11 record this season at first singles where he faced some of the top competition throughout the nation and region. He shares Co-Player of the Year honors with University of Mary Washington senior John James, who last won the conference player of the year award in '07. Burtzlaff makes his second appearance on the All-CAC first team for singles after he was named to the second team in '08.

Barnas had a strong first season for the Gulls as he played the majority of the season at fourth singles where he went 10-4 and had an overall record of 12-4. The freshman was named to the All-CAC second team for singles.

Junior Evan Thomas and sophomore David Lupinetti join Burtzlaff on the first team. Thomas makes his second appearance on the first team after he was named to the second team in '08. The junior posted an 8-8 overall record as he went 7-8 at No. 2 singles. Lupinetti collects his first all-conference singles recognition as the sophomore went 11-4 at No. 3 singles and 14-4 overall in singles.

Burtzlaff returned to the All-CAC first team for doubles with first-year doubles partner Thomas. The duo is ranked fourth in the Atlantic South region. This is the third All-CAC doubles honors for Burtzlaff who was named to the first team last season and second team in '07. This is the third straight season Thomas has been All-CAC in doubles but his first appearance on the first team after he was selected to the second team the past two years. The two posted an 11-5 record at No. 1 singles. Lupinetti and junior Marcus Robinson were also named to the All-CAC first-team for doubles.
