Kincaid leads Sea Gulls past Goucher in final regular-season match

TOWSON, Md. - The No. 22 Salisbury University men's tennis team finished up its regular-season with an 8-1 win over Goucher College. The match was a make up from April 14 when the Sea Gulls were supposed to play two non-conference matches between Johns Hopkins University and Goucher but a storm wiped out the Gopher match.

The match was the final regular-season contest for senior Brendan Kincaid who has been a four-year member of the team and a leader. In the past two seasons he has compiled a 30-15 overall record at No. 1 singles and a 22-7 mark at No. 1 doubles. This season he has led a dominant Sea Gull team with a 20-5 overall singles record, 10-3 at No. 1 singles and 12-5 at No. 1 doubles.

Salisbury (17-5) breezed through the competition on its way to the decisive win as the Sea Gulls fell just shy of the sweep in No. 6 singles play. The No. 1 doubles duo of sophomore Scott Burtzlaff and Kincaid set the tempo for the match as they won eight straight points for the win. The No. 3 doubles team consisted of freshman Matt Copeland and sophomore Marcus Robinson also posted an 8-0 score.

The Sea Gulls' top four singles players lost just four points to the Gophers. Burtzlaff recorded his first clean match of the year as he won 6-0, 6-0.

With the regular season over, the maroon and gold will wait for the announcement by the NCAA selection committee to see if their season will continue. The committee will release the teams selected to the NCAA regionals this weekend.
