MADISON, N.J. - It was a perfect weekend for
the Salisbury University men's tennis team as the Sea Gulls won all
27 matches at the two-day Drew Invitational in Madison, N.J., at
the William E. and Carol G. Simon Athletic Center on the campus of
Drew University.
SU senior Brendan Kincaid battled with Salve
Regina's No. 1 singles player Robbie Norton through three sets.
Norton won the first set 7-5 before Kincaid came back and won the
next two to win, 5-7, 6-4, 10-5. Sophomore Scott
Burtzlaff dropped his first set at No. 2 singles to
Stevens Tech's Arik Zeevey, 6-2. Burtzlaff was leading the second
set 2-0 before Zeevey retired for the match. It was an easier road
for sophomore Evan Thomas and junior Sasha
Felikson who won at No. 3 and No. 4 singles by the same
score 6-0, 6-1. Freshman Andrew Nottage won 6-0,
6-4 over Stevens Tech's No. 5 singles player Jason Ringstad. Sea
Gull sophomore Marcus Robinson completed the
singles sweep for the maroon and gold as he won his No. 6 singles
match 6-2, 6-1 over Drew's Ben Blatt.
In doubles action, the Sea Gulls compiled an unblemished 6-0
record on Sunday. The No. 1 singles pair of Kincaid and Burtzlaff
won 8-1 and 8-0 over two different pairs from Stevens Tech. Nottage
and Robinson won 8-1 and 8-3 at No. 2 doubles while Felikson and
Thomas won 8-1 and 8-1 over No. 3 doubles teams from Drew and Salve
Regina.
Salisbury will open up its home match schedule this Friday,
February 29, against New York University at 2 p.m.
