Kincaid and Burtzlaff selected to NCAA Division III men's tennis championships

INDIANAPOLIS - The season is not over for two Salisbury University men's tennis players as senior Brendan Kincaid and sophomore Scott Burtzlaff were selected to participate in the singles and doubles competition of the 2008 NCAA Division III championships.

The singles and doubles championships will be held May 16-18 at Bates College in Lewiston, Maine.

Kincaid and Burtzlaff, the No. 1 doubles team for No. 21 Salisbury, were one of the 16 doubles team selected nationwide. The duo, ranked No. 4 in the Atlantic South region, posted an overall 18-6 record. They were selected to the 2008 All-Capital Athletic Conference first team.

Kincaid, the powerful left-hander, was also selected for the singles championship for the second time in his career at SU. The Cambridge, Md., made an appearance in the NCAA singles championships in 2006. He is 20-5 this season, ranked No. 6 in the Atlantic South region and an All-CAC first team singles selection.

This is the first time in eight years that Salisbury University men's tennis has had a representative in both the singles and doubles NCAA Division III championships. In 2000, Ben Madarang participated in singles and doubles along with Ben Coldren for SU. That was the first season for SU coach Randy Halfpap. Since then SU was represented by Kincaid ('06) and Nick Peel ('03) in the singles championships.

The individual championships consist of 32 singles players and 16 doubles teams. Student-athletes were selected on won-lost record, strength of schedule and eligibility.
