Thomas named CAC Men's Tennis Athlete of the Week
NORTH HUNTINGDON, Pa. - The Capital Athletic Conference announced its weekly conference athlete of the week awards and Salisbury University sophomore and No. 2 doubles player Evan Thomas (Salisbury, Md./Faith Baptist) was named the men's tennis recipient for the week of April 15.
Thomas went 2-0 at No. 4 singles for the Sea Gulls this past week, with a 6-1, 6-1 win against Haverford, ranked No. 10 in the region, and followed by a 6-2, 3-6, 6-3 win against the No. 22 ranked team in the country Johns Hopkins University.
In doubles play, Thomas and his teammate junior Matt Nicholson posted a 1-1 record at second doubles. The duo won 8-2 against Haverford but lost 8-4 to Johns Hopkins. For the season, Thomas is now 8-3 at fourth singles and 8-1 at second doubles.
The award is the fourth for the SU men's team this season, the most of any team in the CAC. Brendan Kincaid (April 1 and March 11) and Scott Burtzlaff (March 25) are previous honorees.
