NORTH HUNTINGDON, Pa. - The Capital Athletic Conference announced its weekly conference athlete of the week awards and Salisbury University sophomore Scott Burtzlaff (Clarksville, Md./River Hill) was named the men's tennis recipient for the week of March 25.
Burtzlaff was 3-0 at No. 3 singles and 2-1 at No. 1 doubles for SU last week as the Sea Gulls flew to California for Spring Break. The Sea Gulls went 2-1 on the trip as the maroon and gold upset No. 30 Pomona-Pitzer, 8-1, and played a close match against No. 11 Bowdoin that SU lost, 6-3. Burtzlaff defeated Bowdoin's Jamie Neely, ranked No. 24 in the Northeast region, 2-6, 7-5, 7-6 (7-3 tiebreaker). The sophomore from Clarksville, Md., then paired with senior Brendan Kincaid to defeat Pomona-Pitzer's top doubles team, ranked No. 11 in the West region, and then lost a tough match to Bowdoin's top team, ranked No. 5 in the Northeast, 9-8 (7-4). Burtzlaff is 10-2 in singles this season and 12-2 at No. 1 doubles with Kincaid.
