Salisbury finishes season with victory over Shoremen

SALISBURY, Md. - Salisbury defeated Washington (Md.) College in men's tennis for the first time in eight years on Wednesday afternoon as the Sea Gulls capped their season with a 6-3 win over the Shoremen. SU did not to take the two-time NCAA champions lightly even though Salisbury (17-7) came into the match ranked No. 9 in the Atlantic South region, six spots ahead of Washington (8-10).

Salisbury got off to a fast start by sweeping doubles competition. Brendan Kincaid and Scott Burtzlaff won 8-4 in No. 1 doubles. Freshman standout Evan Thomas teamed with Sasha Felikson to best WC in No. 2 doubles. Shane Berry and senior Sean Larson were paired at No. 3 doubles where they defeated Timothy Parks and Derek Wise 8-5.

Larson, the team's lone senior, finished his career with the Gulls on a high note as he also notched a point at No. 5 singles in an intense back-and-forth final set. Thomas also recorded a singles victory which improved his mark to 21-2 in singles competition this season. The other singles point came from fellow freshman Jason Williams, who beat Wise in straight sets at No. 6 singles.

Kincaid fell to Arturo Solis 6-3, 6-4 at No. 1 singles as Kincaid gave a strong effort throughout the match. Solis placed fourth in the nation at the 2006 NCAA Division III Tennis Championships.
