NEWPORT NEWS, Va. - The Salisbury University
men's tennis team won two in-region matches here Saturday against
Ferrum College and Roanoke College. The Sea Gulls (8-2), ranked
eighth in the Atlantic South region, blanked Ferrum 9-0 and beat
Roanoke 6-3.
Salisbury No. 1 singles Matt Nicholson, ranked
No. 14 in the region, won both of his matches in straight sets.
Nicholson then teamed up with junior Brendan
Kincaid in doubles action to win both No. 1 doubles
matches. Nicholson and Kincaid are ranked No. 6 in the region.
SU continues to receive strong play from its freshmen as
Scott Burtzlaff and Evan Thomas
won both of their matches at No. 3 and No. 4 singles, respectively.
Thomas now sports a team best 10-0 singles record for the 2007 dual
match season.
Roanoke's three points came in No. 2 and No. 5 singles and No. 3
doubles.
Salisbury stays in Newport News for a Sunday match (Noon)
against Christopher Newport University, ranked No. 12 in the
region.
