Salisbury breezes through Drew Invitational

CAMDEN, N.J. - The Salisbury University men's tennis team took part in the Drew Invitational this past weekend and came away with an impressive 37-3 record as a team. Although the records do not count on the team's overall record, the individual players are credited with each win.

Salisbury's No. 1 singles player, sophomore Matt Nicholson, went 4-0 on the afternoon as he defeated Salve Regina's No. 1 player and Drew's No. 1 player 8-5 and 8-2, respectively. In addition he won both matches against the No. 2 players from those schools by counts of 8-3 and 8-0.

When Nicholson didn't play alone he teamed up with last year's No. 1 singles player, junior Brendan Kincaid. The team of Nicholson and Kincaid stormed through the competition as they won all for of their matches, 8-2, 8-2, 8-0 and 8-1.

Salisbury also received perfect afternoon's from freshman Scott Burtzlaff, freshman Evan Thomas, sophomore Sasha Felikson, senior Sean Larson and freshman Jason Williams.

On the doubles side, the No. 2 team of Burtzlaff and Thomas went unbeaten as they won their sets 8-6, 8-5, 8-5 and 8-4.

The Sea Gulls open up team play on Saturday, March 3 as they host a dual meet with Virginia Wesleyan College and Chowan College with a start of 11 am.
