Sea Gulls aim for first CAC title since 1999

ST. MARY'S CITY, Md. - It has been seven seasons since somebody other then the University of Mary Washington has won the Capital Athletic Conference men's tennis tournament. In 1999, Salisbury University completed a four-year run as CAC champions. This season, the Sea Gulls pose the biggest threat to the nationally ranked Eagles of UMW.

Salisbury enters the tournament as the No. 2 seed with a 14-5 record and 6-1 CAC mark. The Sea Gulls will host No. 7 seed Hood College (3-9, 1-5 CAC) on Monday, April 16, in the quarterfinal round. The winner will advance to the semifinals and face the winner of No. 3 seed York (Pa.) College vs. No. 6 St. Mary's (Md.) College on Thursday, April 19, at the home of the higher remaining seed.

This season the Sea Gulls defeated Hood 9-0 on April 3. The only loss the Gulls suffered in conference was to Mary Washington, 7-2, on March 31. The No. 11 Eagles (14-8, 6-0 CAC) have won seven CAC titles in a row (13 titles overall).

The championship will be held on Saturday, April 21, at the home of the higher remaining seed.
