Salisbury makes a splash in tri-meet at York

YORK, Pa. - The Salisbury University men's and women's swim teams competed in a tri-meet with York (Pa.) College and Goucher College on Friday night at York. The women's team fell to York, 106-98, and defeated Goucher, 134-68, which the men's team fell to Goucher and York, 129-73 and 112-92, respectively.

Senior Sarah Ault, sophomore Taylor Merget and freshman Nikki Schult led the women's team, as each finished first in an event. 

Ault was the first Sea Gull to win an event by finishing the 100-yard butterfly in 1:03.11. Merget followed in the 100-yard backstroke (1:06.92), while Schult won the 500-yard freestyle (5:37.99).

The team of Ault, Merget, Schult and sophomore Brittany Steele, started the strong day for Salisbury with a second-place finish in the team's first event of the day; they swam the 200-yard medley relay in 2:04.12.

Junior Chris Franklin and senior Paul Zoli finished in the highest positions for the men's team.

Franklin led the team in the 50-yard freestyle with a second-place finish (22.49), and Zoli placed second in the 100-yard freestyle (49.57).

Zoli, sophomore Rich Ambrose, senior Eric Robichaud and freshman Ryan Greene ended Salisbury's day on a strong note with a second-place finish in the 200-yard freestyle relay (1:32.58).

The Sea Gulls will be in action again after the new year, as they travel to McDaniel College on Saturday, Jan. 5; the meet is set for 1 p.m.
