KUTZTOWN, Pa – The Salisbury University men's and women's swimming teams dove into the first day of competition at the Golden Bear Invitational being hosted by Kutztown University on Friday evening.
The men's team went up against Montclair State University, which took an 18-point advantage through the first 10 events, 240-222. Salisbury collected 53 points in the 500-yard freestyle with freshman Eric Gillies leading the charge, hitting the wall in second place with a time of 5:22.23.
The women's team sits in third place with a score of 119 points. Kutztown leads the charge with 196 points while East Stroudsburg University is in second with 182 points. Montclair State University sits at fourth with 114 points. Junior Sarah Ault had the top individual finish for the Sea Gulls on the first day, finishing in the top five of the 200-yard IM (2:24.23) in a field of 19 competitors.
Salisbury will dive back into the pool on Saturday for the second and final day of the invitational; trials begin at 10 a.m., with the finals starting at 4 p.m.
