Men’s soccer selected to finish fifth in preseason poll

FREDERICKSBURG, Va. — The Salisbury University men's soccer team was picked to finish fifth in the Capital Athletic Conference coaches' preseason poll, which was released on Thursday morning.

The Sea Gulls received 48 points in a polling of the league's head coaches, who were not permitted to vote for their own team.

Defending CAC champion Christopher Newport University was chosen to defend its title by receiving seven of the 10 first-place votes for a total of 79 points.

The University of Mary Washington was a close second with 73 points and two first-place votes, while York College of Pennsylvania picked up the remaining first-place vote and 60 points to land in third. St. Mary's College of Maryland received 48 points to finish in fourth.

The Sea Gulls kick off the 2017 season on Friday, Sept. 1 against Capital University in the Elmer Lord Memorial Tournament at 2 p.m.
