DANBURY, Conn. – Following his first Capital Athletic Conference Player of the Week award on Monday, Salisbury University senior back Jeff Byrnes earned his first Eastern College Athletic Conference award, being named the Division III South Defensive Player of the Week, the organization announced Tuesday afternoon.
Byrnes helped anchor a Sea Gull defense last week that recorded two more shutouts to add to its impressive unblemished record, with a 0-0 double-overtime draw against Catholic University of America and a 1-0 victory over the University of Mary Washington.
SU's backline is a force to be reckoned with, only allowing five goals all season for a 0.42 goals-against average, and recording seven clean sheets through 11 matches.
With just seven matches left to round out the 2014 regular season, the Sea Gulls will next face St. Mary's College of Maryland, the only other team in the CAC that has an undefeated record in conference play. First touch is set for 4 p.m., on Wednesday, October 8, at the SU Soccer Complex.
