YORK, Pa. – The Capital Athletic Conference announced its Men's Soccer Player of the Week honorees Monday afternoon and Salisbury University senior back Jeff Byrnes earned the Defensive Player of Week accolade.
Byrnes is the fifth Player of the Week recipient for the Salisbury men's soccer team through the six weeks of awards, after helping the Gulls maintain an unblemished 8-0-3 record with two shutouts this past week.
Playing in all 200 minutes in the two matches, the Rockville, Maryland native continues to be a crucial piece to a defense that has only allowed five goals and recorded seven shutouts through 11 matches. Sporting a 0.42 goals-against average, SU has limited opponents to just 8.6 shots per game.
Byrnes and the Gulls are back in action on Wednesday, October 8, as Salisbury welcomes St. Mary's College of Maryland to the SU Soccer Complex for a CAC matchup. First touch is set for 4 p.m.
