YORK, Pa. – The Capital Athletic Conference announced its men's soccer player of the week awards Monday afternoon and Salisbury University senior Kyle Westbrook was honored with the defensive accolade.
The starting defender captained the backfield for the Sea Gulls (3-0-1) through the entirety of the Seahawk Classic over the weekend at St. Mary's College of Maryland, playing all 180 minutes in the two contests. Westbrook and the defense helped record the team's first two shutouts of the season with 2-0 victories over Baldwin Wallace University and Bridgewater (Va.) College.
Against Baldwin Wallace, the defense only allowed three shots on goal, followed by another three in Sunday's game, all in the first half.
The shutdown defense has only allowed three goals through four games this season, sporting a 0.71 goals-against average.
Westbrook and the Sea Gulls take the week to prepare for their next match on Saturday, September 13, as North Carolina Wesleyan College travels to Salisbury for an out-of-conference tilt. First touch is set for 3 p.m., from the SU Soccer Complex.
