YORK, Pa. – Five Salisbury University men's soccer players have been named to the 2011 All-CAC Men's Soccer Teams, the league announced Wednesday.
Junior goalkeeper John Vnenchak, junior midfielder Jimmy Mundy, sophomore forward Trevor Sharpe and sophomore defender Larry Cornish earned first-team honors. Sophomore defender Chase Humphrey was SU's lone second-team selection.
Vnenchak, a 2010 All-CAC Second Team honoree, ranks 32nd nationally in save percentage (.846) and 33rd in goals-against average (.672). A Flanders, N.J., native, Vnenchak posted a 9-3-3 record with seven shutouts with 55 saves and just 10 goals allowed. He was also named CAC Men's Soccer Defensive Player of the Week and ECAC Division III South Region Defensive Player of the Week once each this season.
Mundy earned his second consecutive first-team nod this season, scoring three goals and notching two assists for eight points in 19 matches. Mundy scored game-winning goals against Pennsylvania State University-Altoona on Sept. 3 in a 4-1 win and versus Wesley in an Oct. 12, 3-0 victory.
Sharpe tied for third in the CAC in goals with eight and was tied for sixth in points with 17 in 18 matches. Sharpe scored a career-high two goals in a 2-0 win over Johns Hopkins University on Oct. 5 and was CAC Men's Soccer Offensive Player of the Week and ECAC Division III South Region Offensive Player of the Week one time each.
Cornish scored two goals and added an assist for five points in 19 matches out of the back this season. Cornish scored the game winner in a 2-0 win over Eastern Mennonite University on Sept. 4 and followed that up with a goal in a 3-2 victory versus Frostburg State University on Sept. 24.
Humphrey tallied three goals and an assist in 17 matches this season. Two of the tallies came in a 2-1 win at Washington (Md.) College on Sept. 7. He buried a penalty kick in the 79th minute for the win.
SU (13-3-3) hosts Neumann University in an NCAA first round match at the SU Soccer Complex Thursday. Kickoff is slated for 1 p.m.
