SALISBURY, Md. – The No. 17 Salisbury University men's soccer team dropped Saturday's Capital Athletic Conference championship match to York (Pa.) College, 1-0.
York struck early in the first half to take a 1-0 lead. Spartan forward Taylor Brummitt put the ball into the back of the net just two minutes into the game. After the goal, the teams played the rest of the half evenly. Both teams finished the half with seven shots each.
Salisbury was led by sophomore defender Chase Humphrey and sophomore forward Trevor Sharpe, who were tied for the team lead in shots with two in the first half. Humphrey led the team with four total shots for the game.
The game went into halftime with York holding the 1-0 lead.
The second half was much of the same with both teams battling. The Gulls vigorously fought for the equalizing goal, but were ultimately unable to come up with a score.
The match was physical from the beginning, as it featured 25 fouls, four yellow cards and a red card.
Salisbury will now wait for the NCAA Tournament bracket that will be released on Monday to see if they will come out with an at-large bid. Check out www.suseagulls.com for more information as it becomes available.
