3-0 victory gives Sea Gulls shot at eighth CAC Championship

SALISBURY, Md. – The No. 17 Salisbury University men's soccer team came out victorious in Wednesday's Capital Athletic Conference semifinal game against Frostburg State University. With the 3-0 win, the Sea Gulls move on to the CAC championship game.

Salisbury (13-2-3) took control of the game against Frostburg (11-3-4) with a goal in the first 10 minutes of the match. Sophomore forward Trevor Sharpe gathered the ball near midfield before he streaked down the field, beat a Frostburg defender and ripped a shot into the top of the net to give the Gulls a 1-0 lead.

Senior forward Ian Wilson gave the Sea Gulls a two-goal cushion in the 16th minute. Wilson took a pass from junior midfielder Jeremy Moyer into the 18-yard box and slipped a shot past the keeper.

The Sea Gulls took the 2-0 lead into the half, and kept the score that way for the majority of the second half.

In the 89th minute of the match, freshman forward Matt Greene scored the final Sea Gull goal. He received a cross from sophomore forward Phil Bucheimer and found himself alone in front of the net before ripping a shot past the keeper.

Junior goalkeeper John Vnenchak picked up his ninth victory of the season as he made a couple of spectacular saves along the way. This was his seventh shutout of the year.

Salisbury will play again in the CAC championship game on Saturday as the Gulls take on York (Pa.) College at the SU Soccer Complex. The time of the match is yet to be determined. Check out www.suseagulls.com for more information as it becomes available.
