SALISBURY, Md. – The No. 17 Salisbury University men's soccer team came out victorious on Saturday, in the team's Senior Day game, with a 7-0 win over Capital Athletic Conference opponent Hood College.
Senior forward Ian Wilson scored two goals in the game as he put the Gulls ahead early with his first goal just 14 minutes into the first half. Sophomore defender Chase Humphrey made a run up the left sideline and kicked a cross into the middle of the 18-yard box that Wilson buried into the back of the net.
The Gulls scored three more goals in the half, two of which were netted by freshman forward Matt Greene. Greene's first goal came on a shot that deflected off of the keeper and spun into the goal.
Sophomore forward Phil Bucheimer gave Salisbury (10-2-3, 5-1 CAC) a 3-0 lead after he beat two defenders and streaked down the field for a goal. Greene followed Bucheimer with his second goal of the game. With the goal, Greene now leads the Sea Gulls with eight this season.
Wilson put away his second goal 12 minutes into the second half. Freshman forward Cody Webster led Wilson with a pass into the 18-yard box where Wilson beat a defender and slipped a shot past the Hood (3-9-1, 0-6-1 CAC) keeper.
Salisbury's last two goals came off of the feet of freshmen. Midfielder Nick Buric scored his first career goal as a Sea Gull, off of an assist by sophomore forward Trevor Sharpe, to put the Gulls up by six.
In the final minute of the game, freshman midfielder Stephen Poorman put away his first career goal, on a header for Salisbury's seventh tally.
Senior goalkeeper Brandon Mumby made his fifth start of the season and earned his fourth win while making one save.
Salisbury will be in action again on Monday, Oct. 24, as it travels to St. Mary's (Md.) College for another CAC showdown. The match is set to start at 3:30 p.m.
