SALISBURY, Md. – The No. 17 Salisbury University men's soccer team took down Capital Athletic Conference foe Marymount (Va.) University on Monday, 1-0.
The Sea Gulls scored the game's only goal in the 30th minute of the first half. After a foul in the 18-yard box that resulted in a yellow card for Marymount (3-8-3, 1-3-2 CAC), sophomore defender Chase Humphrey lined up for a penalty kick. Humphrey proceeded to plant the ball into the back of the goal to give Salisbury (9-2-3, 4-1 CAC) a 1-0 lead.
The Gulls held the lead for the rest of the game as the defense, led by junior Nate Woods, sophomore Larry Cornish, senior Sean Coggins and Humphrey, continued to hold any oncoming attacks from the Saints.
Junior goalkeeper John Vnenchak earned his fourth shutout of the season and made seven saves in the victory. He played the entire 90 minutes in the goal for Salisbury.
The Sea Gulls will be in action again as they travel to St. Mary's (Md.) College for another CAC showdown on Wednesday. The match is set to start at 3:30 p.m.
