Sea Gulls set to begin the season ranked No. 20 in NSCAA Top 25 preseason poll
KANSAS CITY, Kan. – The Salisbury
University men's soccer team will begin the 2010 season where it
left off the 2009 season, ranked No. 20 in the country, as the
National Soccer Coaches Association of America released its
preseason poll. The Sea Gulls finished 15-3-2 throughout the '09
season and advanced to the second round of the NCAA tournament.
The Sea Gulls' 2010 schedule features four teams ranked in the
NSCAA preseason poll. In September, SU will host No. 24 Lynchburg
College (Sept. 18) before traveling to Baltimore, Md., for a
meeting with No. 10 Johns Hopkins University (Sept. 28). The Sea
Gulls and Blue Jays met in the second round of the 2009 NCAA
tournament, with JHU advancing on penalty kicks.
In October, the Sea Gulls will host No. 8 York (Pa.) College (Oct.
23) in a pivotal Capital Athletic Conference (CAC) contest. The two
teams have combined to win the last eight CAC titles, with SU
claiming five titles during that span. SU will close out regular
season play at No. 5 Christopher Newport University (Oct. 27). Last
season the Sea Gulls defeated the Captains 2-1 when CNU was ranked
No. 1 in the nation.
The Sea Gulls open the season with a non-conference contest against
Catholic University at the SU Soccer Complex at 4 p.m. on
Wednesday, Sept. 1.
