Sea Gulls finish season ranked No. 20

KANSAS CITY, Kan. - The Salisbury University men's soccer team finished out the season ranked No. 20 in the final NSCAA (National Soccer Coaches Association of America) Top 25 poll, released on Tuesday.

The Sea Gulls finished the season with an overall record of 15-3-2 and a record of 7-0-1 in the Capital Athletic Conference. Salisbury was the top seed in the CAC tournament and hosted the first and second rounds of the NCAA tournament, advancing to the second-round game.

Salisbury finished the season ranked in the top 15 in both scoring offense and team goals against average. The Sea Gulls ranked third in scoring offense with a 3.55 goals per game average and 14th in scoring defense with a .58 goals against average.

Departing senior forward Kyle Sterling (Salisbury, Md.) finished 19th in the nation with a 2.05 points per game average.

The Sea Gulls look to move into the 2010 season with a strong group of returning players as they will welcome back six seniors; Joe Rubel (Alexandria, Va.), Justin Lambert (Silver Spring, Md.) and Casey Rector (Ellicott City, Md.) will contribute to the Sea Gulls' solid defense. Forwards Chris Finney (Columbia, Md.) and Mike Napolitano (Ellicott City, Md) as well as midfielder Dave Corrigan (Brookfield, Conn.) will be anchoring Salisbury's offense.
