McGrath named CAC Co-Male Scholar Athlete of the Year
YORK, Pa. – Salisbury University defender Justin McGrath (Perry Hall, Md.) was selected as the 2010 Capital Athletic Conference Co-Male Scholar Athlete of the Year. McGrath shares the distinction with University of Mary Washington senior swimmer Justin Anderson. The selection was made by the conference athletic directors and sports information directors.
This marks the second straight year and fourth time overall that
a SU male student-athlete has been honored with accolade.
McGrath joins former soccer players Michael
Giuffrida (1999) and Dan Meehan (2004),
plus former SU baseball pitcher Eric Willey (2009)
as Salisbury University recipients. This is the eighth overall CAC
Scholar Athlete of the Year award for SU.
McGrath, a recent graduate of SU with a degree in biology, finished
his academic career with an impressive 3.874 grade point
average. The Perry Hall, Md., native has garnered several other
impressive awards over the last four years for his work on the
field and in the classroom. He was selected as the SU Male Scholar
Athlete of the Year in 2010 and is a member of three honor
societies: Phi Kappa Phi, Chi Alpha Sigma and Beta Beta Beta. For
all four years of his collegiate career McGrath has also
been an honoree for the prestigious Maryland House of
Delegates as well as Senatorial Scholarships and has been named to
the Dean's List five times.
On the field, the four-year letter winner was named to the
all-conference teams three times. Over the last four years the Sea
Gulls compiled a 57-16-8 overall record, won the CAC championship
two times and made three NCAA tournament appearances. In the past
three seasons, the Sea Gulls posted a goals against average of 0.48
('07), 0.66 ('08) and 0.58 ('09).
To be eligible for the CAC award, a student-athlete must be at
