Five different goal scorers hand Moravian 5-0 shutout

LYNCHBURG, Va. - Five different Salisbury University men's soccer players recorded a goal on Sunday afternoon as the Sea Gulls throttled Moravian College 5-0 on the final day of the Shellenberger Classic hosted by Lynchburg College.

Salisbury (5-0-0), ranked No. 17 in the country, went a perfect 2-0 for the weekend. The Sea Gull defense has recorded four straight shutouts and has not surrendered a goal in over 400 minutes.

The Sea Gulls were well represented on the all-tournament team with five players; forward Mike Napolitano, midfielders Alex Hargrove and Kyle Sterling, defenseman Ryan Chacon and goalie Greg Wellinghoff.

Hargrove got things started for the Sea Gulls 53 seconds into the game with an unassisted goal. Napolitano followed with his second goal of the weekend off a Scott Sparrow assist in the ninth minute. Sterling tacked on his third goal of the season in the 27th minute with a goal past Moravian (1-3-0) starting goalie Chris Nederostek (five saves). Salisbury led 3-0 at the half.

In the second half, the Sea Gulls scored two more goals. Sophomore Ben DeLisle scored on a header past backup goalie Bryan White (seven saves) on an assist from freshman Sam Flax in the 41st minute. Salisbury closed out the scoring with an unassisted goal by junior Greg Taylor in the 74th minute.

Wellinghoff started the game for the maroon and gold and recorded one save in 63 minutes of work. SU backup goalies junior Joshua Scotton and sophomore Brandon Mumby both logged scoreless minutes to close out the game. Salisbury outshot Moravian 33-4 and took six corner kicks.

The Sea Gulls will return to the state of Virginia on Saturday to face Randolph-Macon College in a non-conference 3 p.m. game.
