Sterling, Napolitano selected to NSCAA All-South Region Teams
KANSAS CITY, Kan - The National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) released its 2008 NCAA Division III Men's All-South Region Team and Salisbury had two players honored. Junior midfielder Kyle Sterling was named to the first team and sophomore midfielder Mike Napolitano garnered third team accolades.
The two Sea Gulls are among 10 Capital Athletic Conference players to be selected as NSCAA All-South Region honorees. York (Pa.) College had six players represented with five of those players being selected to the first team. Wesley College had two players named to the third team.
Sterling receives his second NSCAA All-South Region selection in his career, as he was named to the second team last season. The Salisbury, Md., product was a mainstay for the CAC champion Sea Gulls this fall as he started and played in 20 games this season. Sterling tallied 10 goals, 25 points and had three game-winning goals. The 2008 All-CAC first team honoree led the CAC in shots (78) and shots per game (3.71). Sterling is tied for third in the conference in game-winning goals. In his three-year career at SU, Sterling has notched 31 goals, 20 assists, 82 points and 11 game-winning goals.
Napolitano is making his first career appearance on the NSCAA All-South Region team. The Ellicott City, Md., native had eight goals, eight assists and two game-winning goals for the Sea Gulls this season. Napolitano was named CAC Player of the Week for September 8. The 2008 All-CAC first team selection started and played in 20 games for the Sea Gulls this season. In his two-year career for the maroon and gold, he has tallied 19 goals, nine assists for 47 points.
