INDIANAPOLIS - Fresh off its Capital Athletic
Conference championship the Salisbury University men's soccer team
learned of its NCAA tournament fate on Monday as the selection
committee selected SU as one of the first and second round hosts in
the 2007 NCAA Division III championships.
Salisbury (15-4-1) will face Old Westbury (12-3-1) in the first
round on Saturday, November 10, at 11 a.m. at the SU Soccer
Complex. Forty minutes after the completion of that game the second
first round game between Muhlenberg (12-4) and Virginia Wesleyan
(16-3) will take place at SU. The two winners of these first round
games will meet in Sunday's second round game at the SU Soccer
Complex.
The Sea Gulls will make their seventh NCAA tournament appearance
in nine years and first since 2005. Salisbury was a national
semifinalist four seasons ago in 2004. SU has also reached the
national quarterfinals in 1999 and 2003. In the previous six
appearances in the NCAA tournament SU has posted a 5-6-3 record.
Old Westbury is making it's first-ever appearance in the NCAA
tournament. The Panthers, from the Skyline Conference, were one of
37 teams to win their respective conference and earn an automatic
bid into the championships. Virginia Wesleyan, from the Old
Dominion Athletic Conference, is making its third straight NCAA
appearance and 14th overall in program history. The Marlins earned
a Pool C at-large bid. Muhlenberg, from the Centennial Conference,
also earned a Pool C at-large bid as the Mules will make the
program's 11th appearance in the NCAA tournament.
The winner of the second round game will advance to the NCAA
sectionals the following weekend. The national semifinals (November
23) and national championship (November 24) will be played in
Orlando, Fla., at the Walt Disney's Wide World of Sports Complex.
