HIGHLIGHT VIDEO: No. 3 Salisbury vs. Christopher Newport
The Salisbury University men’s lacrosse team advanced to the Capital Athletic Conference championship game after defeating third-seeded Christopher Newport University in the CAC semifinals on May first 14-6. The Sea Gulls advanced behind a dominant defensive performance that saw the maroon and gold defense total 13 caused turnovers, led by Jackson Woodward’s three, hold the Captains to a 1-of-4 mark on man-up opportunities, a 16-of-23 mark in clears, as well as get an eight save performance by junior goalie Brandon Warren. The unit also held the Captains scoreless for nearly 24 minutes of game time and allowed just one goal in the second half. Josh Melton moved into the record books during the win as he tallied the 100th point of his 2019 season finishing with a team-high six points in the contest. Melton finished the night with a team-best four goals, including three in the opening half top help give the Sea Gulls a 9-5 lead at the break. For the season Melton has recorded team-highs in both goals and assists with 57 and 43 respectively. Salisbury will return to action on Saturday, May 4 when it travels to York College of Pennsylvania to take on the Spartans in the CAC championship. Faceoff is set for 3 p.m.
