LOUISVILLE – The United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association released its weekly USILA/Warrior and New Balance Team of the Week on Tuesday and both senior midfielder Corey Gwin and senior faceoff specialist Brett Malamphy found themselves among the list of 10 honorees to receive the weekly accolade.
Both players turned in exceptional performances in the Sea Gulls' 18-9 win against Ohio Wesleyan University on March 3 as each of them set new career highs as well as team bests in the victory.
Malamphy posted a faceoff win percentage of .840 as he won 21-of-25 faceoffs including going 17-of-17 in the first half. He was 12-of-12 in the first quarter alone helping Salisbury jump out to a 9-2 advantage in the opening 15 minutes. Four of Salisbury's first nine goals were scored within a minute or less of a faceoff win by Malamphy. He would also add in yet another team-best and a career-high 14 groundballs in the victory.
Gwin finished the game as the team's leading scorer with seven goals while totaling nine points, both of which are career highs for Gwin. He scored five of his seven goals in the first half including all three of the Sea Gulls' makers in the second frame. He becomes the first player to score seven goals in a single game since Brendan Bromwell accomplished the feat on May 13, 2017 against Hampden-Sydney College in the third round of the NCAA Tournament.
Salisbury returns to action on Saturday, March 9 when it travels to No. 19 Stevenson University to take on the Mustangs in a 7 p.m., game at Mustang Stadium.
