BALTIMORE – Inside Lacrosse released its first ever Division III Media Poll with the release of the 2019 Preseason Poll on Thursday afternoon. Salisbury, earned two of the 14 first-place votes, found itself in a familiar place in the poll coming in at No. 2, marking the third poll this preseason in which they have earned that ranking.
The Sea Gulls, who totaled 263 points, are coming off a 2018 season in which they turned in a 20-4 overall record while posting a 7-1 mark in Capital Athletic Conference play, running off 14-straight victories to claim the program's 21st CAC title. Salisbury advanced to the national championship but eventually fell to Wesleyan University to finish the season as the national runner up.
Wesleyan accumulated 276 points and received 12 of the 14 first-place votes to enter the 2019 season as the No. 1 team in the nation, coming off the program's first national championship. The Rochester Institute of Technology garnered 245 points to earn the No. 3 ranking while Tufts University, 240 points, will start the year at No. 4. Amherst College rounds out the top five, earning 217 points.
Salisbury is joined in the poll by CAC opponents York College of Pennsylvania and Christopher Newport University. The Spartans totaled 203 points to come in at No. 7 while the Captains earned 105 points to enter the 2019 season as the 13th ranked team in the country.
Salisbury opens the season on Sunday, February 3 when it hosts Southern Athletic Association opponent Berry College at 12 p.m.
