FREDERICKSBURG, Va. – The No. 9 Salisbury University men's lacrosse took to the road to face University of Mary Washington in Capital Athletic Conference action on Saturday afternoon. The Sea Gulls picked up their fifth straight victory downing the Eagles, 20-10.
Salisbury (11-3, 4-1 CAC) finished the game with five different players tallying multiple goals as Griffin Moroney led the way with a team-best four goals and two assists for the afternoon. Moroney netted two goals in the second quarter and popped in another two in the second half to round out his day.
Both Corey Gwin and Zach Pompea netted three markers for the afternoon including three of the first four goals of the day for the maroon and gold. After the Eagles (7-7, 3-3 CAC) took an early, 2-0, lead Gwin netted his first tally of the contest before Pompea gave the Gulls the lead for good netting two goals in a two-minute span to push the lead to 4-2 at the end of the first quarter.
Garrett Reynolds and Austin Short rounded out their afternoons netting two goals apiece, with Reynolds netting back-to-back markers in the third quarter to help build an eight goal advantage for the Gulls entering the final frame of action.
In the cage Brandon Warren earned his eighth win of the season for the maroon and gold making six saves on the afternoon while facing 12 shots.
Salisbury returns to action on Saturday April, 21 when it hosts Frostburg State University in the Sea Gulls annual Lax 4 Leukemia Youth Day game as well as honor the programs seniors on Senior Day. Face-off between the Gulls and Bobcats is scheduled for 1 p.m.
