FREDERICKSBURG, Va. – The Capital Athletic Conference released its 2018 Preseason Men's Lacrosse Poll on Wednesday morning and Salisbury University found itself sitting right on top as the favorite to defend its conference title from last season.
The Sea Gulls garnered the maximum eight first-place votes while also picking up 64 points. Salisbury won its 20th CAC title last season defeating the York College Pennsylvania 15-5. York was selected to finish second in the conference picking up one first-place vote and totaling 57 points.
The top five was rounded out by Christopher Newport University (47 points), which advanced to the CAC playoffs last season, at number three while Frostburg State University (43 points), which also advanced to postseason play, came in at four. The University of Mary Washington (39 points), which made it to the second round of the CAC tournament falling to Salisbury, rounded out the group at number five.
The remaining four teams were Southern Virginia University, St. Mary's College of Maryland, Marymount (Va.) University, and Wesley College.
The No. 1 Sea Gulls return to action on Saturday, February 10 when they host No. 12 Lynchburg College. Face-off between Salisbury and the Hornets is scheduled for 1 p.m.
