SALISBURY, Md. – Salisbury University men's head lacrosse Head Coach Jim Berkman has earned the highest of recognition as he will be inducted as part of the inaugural class into the North Country Sports Hall of Fame this fall over Columbus Day weekend.
Coach Berkman led the Sea Gulls to a 22-1 overall record, a perfect 8-0 mark in Capital Athletic Conference play, a CAC championship, and the program's 12th national championships this past season earning a 15-7 victory over the Rochester Institute of Technology at Gillette Stadium in Foxborough, Mass. Berkman also set two exceptional records during the 2017 campaign becoming the first ever NCAA lacrosse coach, across all divisions and genders, to record 500 wins as well as earn 500 wins at one school.
During his time at Salisbury, Berkman has complied a record of 502-52 (.904) and overall coaching record of 511-57 (.899) after one successful season at the State University of New York at Potsdam.
The North Country Sports Hall of Fame was established to pay tribute to both the men and women who have come from Northern New York's small towns and whose contributions to sports have brought honor to the region. The ceremony and banquet is scheduled to take place on October 7, 2017 at the Watertown Elks Lodge.
