National champion men's lacrosse team honored at state house

ANNAPOLIS, Md. – The Salisbury University men's lacrosse team opens up its national championship title defense in just over a week, and on Wednesday, January 25 the team was celebrated for the 2016 title at the Maryland State House.

The team was invited to the State House and was honored on the floor of both the House of Delegates and the State Senate, along with having a meeting with Governor Larry Hogan and Comptroller Peter Franchot.

Delegate Carl Anderton sponsored resolutions on the House side while Senator Jim Mathias sponsored resolutions in the Senate.

The resolutions recognized the team, for its national championship, with Head Coach Jim Berkman and captains Nathan Blondino and Preston Dabbs stepping forward to accept on behalf of the team.

The Sea Gulls will begin their quest toward a 12th program title this fall. The team will open the 2017 season on February 4 when it hosts Methodist University at Sea Gull Stadium in a contest scheduled to begin at 1 p.m.
