YORK, Pa.- The top-ranked Salisbury University men's lacrosse team swept the weekly Capital Athletic Conference awards as senior James Burton was named the offensive player of the week and junior Aaron Leeds was named the conference's defensive player of the week, as announced by the conference on Monday.
The CAC's leading assist man, Burton (33 assists) went for three goals and eight assists in the Gulls' (15-0) two-win week. Against No. 20 Christopher Newport University, Burton went for two goals and six assists. The six assists was a career high, while the eight-point outing tied a career-high mark.
Then, against Frostburg State University, Burton tallied one goal to go along with two assists to cap his week. Burton's three goals came off just four shots (.750 shooting percentage).
Leeds dominated on the defensive end all week for a defense that only allowed eight goals over the two games combined. Against CNU, Leeds came away with five groundballs and one caused turnover, before a career day against Frostburg. Against the Bobcats, Leeds caused a career-high six turnovers and scooped up a career-high seven groundballs.
Burton, Leeds, and the rest of the Gulls return to action on Wednesday, April 13 when they go on the road to York College of Pennsylvania for a chance to clinch home field advantage throughout the CAC playoffs. That game is set for 4 p.m.
