BALTIMORE – The Salisbury University men's lacrosse team is less than a month away from the start of its season, and the Division III Nike/Lacrosse Magazine Preseason Top 20 poll ranked the Sea Gulls as the No. 4 team in the country heading into the season.
The Gulls are coming off a 2015 season that saw the squad go to their 27th-straight NCAA tournament appearance and their 19th Capital Athletic Conference title. During the 2015 campaign, Salisbury went 17-5, including a perfect 8-0 in CAC play.
Salisbury returns three United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association All-Americans for the 2016 season as Thomas Cirillo and Preston Dabbs found their way onto the first team, while Carson Kalama was an honorable mention. Dabbs was also recognized as the top short-stick defensive midfielder in the nation for his efforts last season.
Atop the poll is two-time defending national champion, Tufts University. Tufts is followed by Lynchburg College, Rochester Institute of Technology, Salisbury, and Amherst College.
The Sea Gulls are the only CAC team in the poll, but they will face off against six of the top-20 teams in non-conference play during the 2016 season.
Salisbury opens up its season up on Saturday, February 6 when it will travel to the St. Christopher's School in Richmond, Va., to take on Hampden-Sydney College. Face off is set for 2 p.m.
