Sea Gulls to host Roanoke in NCAA first round on Wednesday

INDIANAPOLIS - The No. 8 Salisbury University men's lacrosse team begins its NCAA Division III tournament run on Wednesday, May 6, hosting a first-round game against Roanoke College at Sea Gull Stadium, after earning the Capital Athletic Conference's automatic bid into the tournament by winning the program's 19th conference championship on Saturday.

The Sea Gulls (15-4) defeated No. 19 Frostburg State University 14-5 in the CAC title game, as a seven-goal third quarter gained control of the contest. With the automatic bid, Salisbury advances to its 27th-straight national tournament under Head Coach Jim Berkman, having not missed a tournament since Berkman took the helm for the 1989 season.

This will mark the 28th all-time meeting between the Sea Gulls and Maroons, with it being the fifth NCAA tournament matchup. Salisbury is 4-0 over Roanoke in the national tournament and holds a 19-8 all-time record in the series, including a current 16-game winning streak.

The team's last met in Salem, Virginia on March 17, 2013 in a 17-5 victory for the Sea Gulls. Stephen Norris and Rhett DePol led the Gulls with four goals each in the game.
