YORK, Pa. – The Capital Athletic Conference announced its weekly honors for men's lacrosse on Monday and Salisbury University swept the awards for the week with sophomore Carson Kalama picking up the Offensive Player of the Week and senior Knute Kraus being named the top defensive player in the past week.
The pair led the Sea Gulls to two wins last week, notching a 13-7 win against then-No. 10 Cabrini College, and an 11-4 victory against the University of Mary Washington.
Kalama notched six points in the win over Cabrini, scoring four goals while adding a pair of assists. All four shots that he put on target found the back of the net in the game. Against the Eagles, Kalama scored two first-quarter goals as the Sea Gulls jumped out to a 4-0 lead. This year, Kalama has posted 15 goals, which is second on the team, and has 20 points.
Kraus caused a turnover and scooped up three ground balls in the win over Cabrini before leading Salisbury in a stifling defensive effort against Mary Washington. The Gulls caused 14 turnovers and allowed the Eagles to get off just 10 shots in the first three quarters of that contest, while Kraus finished with a team-high six caused turnovers, while picking up a pair of ground balls.
The Sea Gulls will return to the field on Wednesday night, taking on No. 7 Stevenson University at Sea Gull Stadium. The contest is slated to begin at 7 p.m.
