SALISBURY, Md. – Recording two more victories on the field this past week, the Salisbury University men's lacrosse team moved up in the latest rankings, Lacrosse Magazine and the United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association announced Monday.
The Sea Gulls (4-3, 1-0 CAC) downed Hampden-Sydney College, 13-4, on March 11, led by a great offensive day by junior James Burton, who recorded five goals and three assists for eight points. On Saturday, Salisbury added another win to the record with a 17-6 victory over Capital Athletic Conference opponent St. Mary's College of Maryland. The Gulls saw offensive production throughout the lineup paced by senior Kyle Goss with four goals, and three-goal efforts by senior Mike Kane, junior Thomas Cirillo and sophomore Carson Kalama.
In the USILA poll, Salisbury made a two-spot jump to No. 15, receiving 99 points. At No. 15 last week in the Lacrosse Magazine ranking, the Gulls moved to No. 14 this week.
Joining SU in the Lacrosse Magazine ranking from the CAC is Christopher Newport University, maintaining the No. 17 spot with a 5-1 record. The Captains are also receiving votes in the USILA poll, while Frostburg State University joins them with votes as well.
The top two spots in both polls remain the same this week with Tufts University holding down No. 1 with an unblemished 4-0 record and Rochester Institute of Technology coming in at No. 2 with a 5-0 tally.
The Gulls take the field on Wednesday, March 18 for their fourth top-20 matchup of the season, as they travel to No. 10 Cabrini College. Start time is set for 4 p.m.
