PERRY, N.Y. – The United State Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association released its preseason coaches' poll Monday afternoon, and the Salisbury University men's lacrosse team was placed at No. 3 to start its 2015 campaign.
The Sea Gulls return the core of one of the top defensive units in the country last season, only allowing 6.57 goals per game, good enough for 14th in the nation. SU also returns scoring threats on the other end, with three returners scoring over 25 goals last season. Led by senior Mike Kane with a team-high 48 goals last season, senior Sean Fitzgerald and junior Thomas Cirillo return after scoring 28 and 27, respectively.
Taking the top spot in the poll is the reigning national champion Tufts University, while Rochester Institute of Technology comes in at No. 2. Rounding out the top five is Stevenson University and Washington (Md.) College.
The first faceoff is set for February 7, as Salisbury welcomes Greensboro College to Sea Gull Stadium for the season opener. Start time is slated for 1 p.m.
