BALTIMORE – The Salisbury University men's lacrosse team is less than a month away from the start of its season, and the Division III Nike/Lacrosse Magazine Preseason Top 20 poll ranked the Sea Gulls as the No. 3 team in the country heading into the season, the organization announced.
Salisbury is coming off of its fourth NCAA Division III national championship game appearance in five years and its 18th Capital Athletic Conference championship, during a 21-win 2014 season.
This season, the Sea Gulls return the majority of their starters from a strong defensive unit, along with their leading goal scorer from last season in senior attackmen Mike Kane to lead the team through the 2015 season.
Tufts University, the defending national champion, and Rochester Institute of Technology enter 2015 as the No. 1 and No. 2 teams in the country, respectively, while No. 4 Washington College and No. 5 Stevenson University also join SU in the top five.
CAC-foe York College of Pennsylvania also cracked the top 20 at No. 12, as the only other CAC team in the rankings.
Salisbury begins its season on Saturday, February 7, hosting Greensboro College at Sea Gull Stadium; the opening faceoff is set for 1 p.m.
