BALTIMORE – The 2015 men's lacrosse preseason All-Americans were recently released by the Inside Lacrosse Face-off Yearbook, and the Salisbury University men's lacrosse team had four players named to the NCAA Division III teams.
Senior defender Knute Kraus and junior defensive midfielder Preston Dabbs were both tabbed as preseason first-team All-Americans. The pair is set to lead a strong SU defensive unit for the upcoming season.
Kraus was honored as a United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association Division III second-team All-American, last season, while also being named to the All-Capital Athletic Conference first team. He finished 2014 fourth on the team with 21 caused turnovers and fifth with 46 ground balls, helping to lead a defense that finished 14th in the country with a 6.57 goals-allowed average.
Dabbs, a two-time USILA All-American was named to the first team after last season, along with a first-team All-CAC bid. His 19 caused turnovers tied for fifth on the team, while he added 16 ground balls. Dabbs also spent time at the faceoff "X" for the Gulls, going 50-for-94 (.532). This season, the St. Mary's City, Maryland native will continue to provide a dual threat for the Gulls as the team's top defensive midfielder, while also spending time taking faceoffs.
Cirillo had a break-out season for Salisbury in 2014, finishing sixth on the team with 27 goals and 38 points. He added 11 assists and 21 ground balls, as a part of the Gulls' second-line midfield. He was named a USILA honorable mention All-American and an All-CAC second-team member. Entering 2015, Cirillo will be on SU's first midfield line and looks to be one of the team's top offensive threats.
Sherr is returning to the Sea Gulls after sitting out the past two seasons due to injury. During the 2012 season, Sherr was a main component to the defense, playing in all 23 games of the national championship season and causing 11 turnovers with 20 ground balls.
Salisbury gets its season started on Saturday, February 7, as the Sea Gulls will open at home against Greensboro College; the opening faceoff is set for 1 p.m.
