INDIANAPOLIS - The No. 2 Salisbury University men's lacrosse team will begin its run at the 2014 national championship with a second-round game of the NCAA Division III tournament at Sea Gull Stadium on Saturday, May 10. The Sea Gulls will host the winner of a mid-week first-round contest between No. 12 York College of Pennsylvania and Susquehanna University, after earning a first-round bye, the NCAA announced on Sunday.
The Sea Gulls earned an automatic bid into the tournament after defeating York, 12-4, on Saturday, May 3 in the Capital Athletic Conference championship game for their 18th CAC crown and are one of two teams to earn a bye for the first round, with No. 1 Rochester Institute of Technology being the other.
Sunday's selection marks the 26th-straight tournament appearance for Salisbury, which has not missed the NCAA playoffs under the direction of Head Coach Jim Berkman.
After falling to the Sea Gulls in the conference championship, York earned an at-large bid to the tournament, while Susquehanna earned an automatic bid after winning its second-straight Landmark Conference championship, defeating Goucher College.
A second-consecutive meeting with York would mark the 19th game between the Gulls and the Spartans, with Salisbury holding an 18-0 all-time record in the series, including 11-0 at home.
A matchup with Susquehanna would be only the second time that Salisbury would take on the Crusaders, with the Sea Gulls defeating Susquehanna in the only other contest, 22-2, last season in an NCAA tournament first-round game at Sea Gull Stadium.
