YORK, Pa. - In the inaugural Capital Athletic Conference men's lacrosse preseason coaches' poll, the Salisbury University men's lacrosse team enters the 2014 season as favorite to win the conference championship, the league announced on Saturday.
After a season in which the Sea Gulls advanced to the CAC championship game and the NCAA Division III tournament semifinal round, they earned 62 points and garnered six, of a possible nine, first place-votes in the poll.
SU edged out St. Mary's College of Maryland, voted No. 2, by seven points, as the Seahawks gathered 55 points and two first-place votes. York College of Pennsylvania was the other school with a first-place nod, taking one top vote and 54 points to be ranked No. 3.
With No. 4 University of Mary Washington (40 points) and No. 5 Frostburg State University (39 points) rounding out the top five, the remainder of the poll stood as No. 6 Christopher Newport University (29 points), No. 7 Wesley College (20 points), No. 8 Marymount (Va.) University (17 points) and Southern Virginia University (eight points).
